Swindlehurst, who are both inmates of the Palmerston North Hospital, will be pleased to hear that they are progressing satisfactorily. The friends of Sgt. E. Allen will be interested to hear that he has left England, having sailed on the Moultan Bay last Saturday. It is not yet known what the expected date of his arrival in this country will be. Chinese Celebrations Yesterday was the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Chinese Repubiic and a number of local Chinese residents journeye.d to Palmerston North and Levin ' where celebrations were held. ' Badminton Closing A number of local badminton players travelled to Ohau on Wednesday evenihg for the Ohau Club's closing night. Some very enjoyable games were played. The date for the local club's closing night v-ill be set at a meeting to be held on Monday evening. Bowling Club Gala Day Keen interest is . being taken in the gala day to be'held on the local bowling green next Sunday. Many residents who have never played bowls before are looking forward to trying their skiU against some of our leading players. Judging by the arrangements which- have been made an enjoyable day should be spent on the greeri.
