REVIEW OF THE FIELDS

The following is a rcview of prospects for the Otaki meeting, together with a guide to form : —

The opening event, the Puketoi Hack Hurdles, looks like Bay Robe again showing the way home to the field. A repetition of his improved . jumping should enable him to again win comfortably. Gynerio, a fresh horse, has been jumping in schools at Trentham and if the going is firm should show to advant'age. Greek Dancer, Gold Claim and Leybourne are not without prospects. . '

Cincture and Tortago's second and third to Idle Along in the Puhi Maiden No. 1 will bring them strong suport in the Manuao Maiden No. 1. A repetition of first day's form should see this pair fight out the issue. Afton Waters was strongly - supported in the. second Puhi Maiden, but disappointed. The Stormovik is a fresh runner. Bonnie Fair came home well in fourth place and is expected to imnrove on it.

If started in the Pukekaraki Hack Belle Zorra will go out a staunch favourite, but it is likely this speed.merchan-t will be reserved for the -hack seve.i?,-)a|gv jn the day. In her absence Royal'' Baron, Carmelita, Skilled- and- Tudor Chief will be the fancied division and unless something unforeseen happens" the winner should come from the above mentioned.

Lady / u Judged on last week's performance in running second to Hulabaloo in the Ling Memorial, Lord Elgin is likely to go out one of the favoured division in the Nikitini Memorial Handicap. Tutere's first attempt over a middle distance was full of credit and he is likely to wind up favourite. Battle Dance is coming right and might shqw to advantage tomprrow over the long journey. Dileas is a fresh' horse with a second to hi& credit in his last three stafts. Barrage's fifth last week was fair. An improved showing can be' expected from The Grand. A likely pair at the bottom of the weights are Delinquent and Royal Duce. Although he disappointed at Hastings last week Delinq.uent must be respected tomorrow oli his own track.

Lady Oratory, unlucky m the Puhi Maiden last week will be the favourite for the Manuao Maiden and must be hard to beat if she steers a straight course. Grey Plume, if started here, and Flak, rpari the hest nf the others.

Belle Zorra will command most respect in the Otaki Hack and wiil appreciate the extra furlong. Others expected to improve- on their last week's perforniances are Moutoa Lord, Hadrian and Homespun. Of the fresh horses engaged Czarina and Tribute are expected to race well, especially the last named.

The open sprint, the "Wairongomai Handicap, has drawn a number of fresh horses in Soneri, Tuis, Saludos and High Orders. Form again points to Peter Gazelle, who has never been better in his career and Soneri. Gay Lena was solidly supported to win the sprint last week, but the best she could do was fifth. High Orders has been working well as also has Saludos. Patrons are likely to witness1 a thrilling race with the class erip-nppri

The concluding event, the Rahui Hack Handicap, looks like repeating first day's form. Others that' will carry strong public 'support are Grand Central, Matawene, Tahli and Nanaaki while a likely lightweight should be Genghiz KbaiL _ j
