OTAKI MOTOR CAMP
FUKTIiER WORK SUGGESTED ^.n arca of a littlc over 15 acres was given to the Otaki Borough Council some years ago for a recreition reserve and motor camp site. The arca is beach saridhills and -he council has never been in a position to develop the whole area and use it for the purpose for which it was given. About a year ago the council started develop•nent by lcvelling part of the land preparatory to roading, but it has now expended all its available funds. The donor of the land suggested that the council should sell •Tie front portions and use the proceeds for the development of the balance. The portion it is proposed to sell is a little over four acres leaving 11 acres (which is considered to be quite adequate) for the motor camp. A clause in the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, which has been presented to' Ihe House of Representatives, authorises the sale and further gives the council power to spend the proceeds on the development of the balance of the recreation reserve and motor camp site. Members of the Otaki Commercial Assc-ciation, who waited on the council at its meeting on Wednesday, pointed out that the association had done good work on the site, but that it was desired that further improvement be effected. It was considered that fencirig was also necessary. The council agteed that it should help and recognised that once the camping ground was in order it would prove a valuable asset to Otaki It would be self-supporting, but at the present time -money was necessary to do the work.
