WELLINGTON, Oct. 10. An ameudment made to tlie Factories Bill by tlie Labour Bills Committee of tlie House of Representatives, increases
the minimum wage in factories for tlie lirst six moiitlis of employment from £1 to 22s (>d a week, to be increased by half-vearly increments on an agreed scale of not less tlian os a week, until the rate of payment is £2 12s 6d a weea iustead of £2 10s as provided for in the original Bill. Nothing in this provision, however, is to derogate from the provision oi the Minimum Wage Aet 1945. In tlie original Bill, the resti'ictions as to overtime that at present apply to women and boys, were extended to youths between 16 and 18 years, but tlie Committee has struck this extenaion of the prohibition on overtime out of the Bill. *
