AGRICULTURAL CLUB
MEETING OF MEMBERS PLANS FOR FINAL JUDGING There was a good attendance of 25 members at the general meeting of the Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club this week. Through the unavoidable absenc.e of the president (Mr. J. G. Horn) , the chair was occupied by Mr. R. L. Robinson. Mr. H. F. McClune, in regard to* the final judging of calves in the 1946 competitions, which was to be held at Levin on December 6, said that two rooms would be available at the school for catering in refreshments. It was decided to approach the Women 's Division of Federated Farmers in regard to the catering. The preparation of the school grounds for the final judging was discussed and Mr. McClune undertook to have this carried out. Messrs. R. L. Robinson, R. W. Evans, I. D. Parsons and F. O. Malcolm were appointed stewards. , Donations were acknowledged with thanks from the following: Levin Dairy Company, Tokomaru Dairy Company, Levin Borough Council, Kuku-Manakau Dairy Company, Levin School Committee and the Horowhenua County Council £2 2s; Mr. J. J. Stevenson, Mr. A. E. Robinson, Koputaroa School Committee, Shannon Dairy Company, Manakau School Committee, Tokomaru School Committee, Horowhenua Jersey Breeders' Club, Waikanae School Committee, Ohau School Committee, Poroutawhao School Committee and Shannon School Committee £1 Is; Makerua School Committee and Paraparaumu School Committee 10s 6d. Mr. J. J. Stevenson intimated that the loud speaker system, operated by Mr: G. S. Maloney, would again be available this year. It was decided that Messrs. J. G. Horn and C. E. Wiseley make inquiries regarding an insurance cover against accident, and if a suitable one was found then they have power to act. Mr. H. Webb asked if it would be possible to have a garden competition judged during the autumn. Mr. Stevenson said in reply that "he was in favour of autumn and winter gardens, but pressure of work prevented this being held at present. Mr. Mowbray said -that a closer supervision of entries as far as age and who cared for the animal should be kept. The chairman said that the rules covered the point. Mr. Bond maintained that stewards at the final judging should prevent adults from grooming the calves. During the meeting the chairman tendered the club's congratulations to Mr. D. K. Guy on his election to the Wellington Education Board, and also welcomed Mr. V. Hudson to the meeting. Mr. Hudson is the new delegate for the Levin Borough Council. "
