AUCKLAND, Oct. 6. Two films on housing in New Zealand and Britain which were to have been exhibited by the Minister of W orks, Hon. R. Semple, at a meeting under Labour Party auspices at King Edward Theatre tonight, had to be cancelled because a permit was allegedly refused by the City Council. The Minister states they were educational tilms which had been shown throughout the Dominion and he had never before been denied the right to present them. "These films deal with the home life pf people both in New Zealand and Britain," Mr. Semple stated. "If it is a sin to talk about building homes for people and showing how it can be done, then I am a sinner but I am egotistic. enough to say that I have just ns much chance of going to heaven as the Mayor of this city." The films, he said, had been shown all over t'he South Island and in parts of the North Island and no other Mayor had denied him the right of exhibition. To suggest that it was in conflict with religious teaching was absurd.
