Mrs. Fred Edwards, who has been in Bowen Hospital, Wellington, returned home yesterday, greatly benefited by the treatment received. Mrs. Gimblett has also returned home. W.I. Shop Day As the result of a shop day at Te Horo on Thursday the sum of £17 was raised for funds for the Women's Tnstitute. Electricity Fails Owing to a fault in a transformer at Te Horo, the electricity supply failed, and farmers were inconvenienced considerably in their milking. Women's Institute Birthday The Waikanae Women's Institute held a birthday party on Thursday, when there was a large gathering and a most successful time was spent. Heavy Race Traffic Cars poured into Otaki on Saturday from all directions for* the Otaki races. It is estimated that there was well over 1000 cars at the course. , Car Loses Wheel While a car was proceeding to the Otaki races on Saturday a wheel came oif in the vicinity of Paraparaumu. Beyond a shock to the occupants no harm was done. Races on Saturday The second day of the Otaki races will b£ held on Saturday next and if the club is again favoured with fine weather another .large attendance is expected. Shortage of Race Books Owing to the large attendance at the Otaki races on Saturday there was a slighF shortage of books, but patrons may rely on Saturday that there will be an abundance.' BurglaYy at' Otaki' *T" ' • During Friday night or early on Saturday morning th,e butcher's shop of Messrs. McBeth and Sons in Main Street was entered by the forcing of a window. Meat to the value of 30s was taken. Mr. Thorn at Te Horo Mr. James Thorn, M.P., Labour candidate for the Otaki seat for the coming election, gave an address at Te Horo on Friday night. There was an attendance of about 20 electors. The address was an interesting one and Mr. Thorn received a hearty vote of thanks at ;he conclusion. Car Accident While a line of cars was proceeding to the Otaki races on Saturday one of the vehicles stopped suddenly. Another immediately hehind could not pull up and a fairly severe collision occurred. One of the cars was rather badly damaged, but the other was able to proceed under its own power. Fortunately the passengers were not injured, though one nian received a nasty bump on the head. Two Persons Injured When the car in which they" were travelling to Wellington ran off the road and capsized about a mile south of Te Horo at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, Mr. R. N. ACtonAdams, and his sister, Miss Helen Acton-Adams, received injuries which necessitated their removal to the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. It is unders'tood that Miss Acton-Adams was shortiy to ieave New Zealand for the United States. The condition of both patients was last night reported to be satisfactory.
