SECRETARY'S WORK PRAISED

ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB Tributes were paid to the work of the honorary secretary, Mr. J. H. Cooper, at the annual meeting of the Levin Combined Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club last week. Mr. E. J. Stanley said that as a comparative newcomer to the town he was struck by the smooth running of the weekly club nights and the open meeting in particular. It spoke volumes for the organising ability of the secretary. Other members spoke in similar vein. The president (Mr. W. Cribb) said that all supporters would be pleased that Mr. Cooper had decided to continue with his good work, as both Mr. and Mrs. Cooper had worked hard for the sport for many years. It was decided by the meeting that the president convey the club's thanks 'to Mrs: Cooper for her work in the interests of athletics and cycling over a long period. Replying to the remarks of members, Mr. Cooper said he had been actively associated with the sport for 31 years. He had intended this year to take a less active part, but as it was the desire of members that he should continue he would accede to their wishes. Mr. Cooper's decision brought applause from the meeting.
