Personal Mrs. Bond, of Palmerston North, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. E. Retter, of Plimmer Terrace. Mrs. H. M. Collins, of Upper Hutt, is the guest of her son and daughter-in-law, , Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Collins, of Stansell Street. Weekend visitors to Shannon were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jenkins, of Wellington, who were looking up a number of old friends in this district. After an illness of many weeks duration, Mr. J. A. Roach is now on the road to recovery. His many friepds are looking forward to seeirfg him up and about again. The friends of Mrs. T. H. Sunley, who met with a serlous accident, last Monday evening and is now an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital, will be pleased to learn that she is now progressing satisf actorily. Mr. T. McClymont, of Tuai, has arrived at Mangaore to take over the position vacated by Mr. Bason's transfer to Karapiro last week. Mr. McClymont will occupy the position of station electrician at the power station. Whitebait Still Plentiful The run of whitebait continued throughout last week in the Manawata River. On Tuesday and Wednesday large quantities were caught, but on Thursday a fresh in the river put a temporary stop to the large catches. The price of whitebait did not go much below 3s 6d or 4s per pound locally. Summer Sports Bodies Busy Preparations are well in hand for the opening of the summer sports season in Shannon. Members of the tennis club spenl Saturday morning on the courts and pavilion. It is hoped to have three courts in playing order before the opening of the season. Bowling club members have also been busy on the greens and -everything will be in good order for the club's opening day, which will be on Saturday, October 19. The local cricketers hope to" get on to their ground early this week. Their problem is much greater than other summer clubs in as much that a new wicket must be formed and the outfield put in playing order before they can open their season.
