ME. HALE'S COMMENT
WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. Commenting tonight on the .inereased irice for butterfat announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. W. E. tlale, eliaimian of the New Zealand Dairy Board, said: "I must express on liehalf of the Dairy industry costs committee, our disappointment at having failed to reach an agreemeut in our negotiations with the Stabilisation Commission ahcl Government. In our negotiations we made it clear to the •Government that the dairy industry was fullv prepared to leave the major part of the recent increase of fourpence per pound butterfat received in the dairy produce price from Great Britain, in the' Dairy Industry Stabilisation Account in the interests of national stabilisation. Our assessment of the appropriate farm and factory costs allowanee for 1946-47 season was based on tlie mininium increase necessary in our opinion, to enable farmers to attract and holff farm labour and to bring dairy farms into full scale production as rapidly as possible. This inereased production is obviously the immediate need of Great Britain and a national responsibility of New Zealand."
