The esl alilisliment and maintenanee of veterinarv services for farmers anu the consl itnl ion of a Veterinarv Ht-r-vices Couni-il, is jirovided for in the Veterinarv .Services Pill which was mtroduced and read a first time in the Ilouse of kepre-entatives today. Uon. O. P. Hkimier said the Bill, which was long overdne, was supportpa by jil I farming" inte.-ests. The principle purpose of the measnre was to exteno veterinarv .^ervices throughout tlie Dominion and 1o enable men unrlergoing' training for positions as veterinarv surgeons to be assured of a permanent position 011 fpmlification. The finance necessary would be provided by eont ribut ions from the Dairy Boarn, Meat J'roducers' Board, and W001 Board, snpported by the State on a pound for ]ionnd subsidv basis. The Bill was fnuned iargely on rocommendal ions of tlie Yoterinary Services Oonimitlee appoinled in 1943. Mr. Barclay was then Minister oi' Agriculture.
