FOOD FOR YORKSHIRE HOME
parcels warmly received A well-known Levin resident has received a letter from Mrs. I. Elliot, matron of the Public Assistance Institution, Stokesley, Yorkshire, warmly acknowledging parcels sent from Levin. The recipient of tjie letter did not send the parcels personally and does not know by whom they were despatched. The letter reads as follows: — "Your name was on the card enclosed in a gift parcel which has reached us here in Yorkshire. I could not resist sending these few lines personally to say a big 'Thank You' from our old people. "The contents of the parcels are in perfect condition, and what a treat they have had — stomach troubles forgotten. The tinned milk and coffee will be added to their ordinary diet. We were able to celebrate a second time for victory, and with special fare of tinned fruit, cream, fruit cakes, etc. "We have 60 aged and infirm cases. Each one received a personal gift of sweets, and in the case of those who cut their own 'baccy' they are the proud recipients of a new pocket knife. Others received razor blades or shaving soap, and the very infirm the shortbread and biscuits, the latter declaring 'they are home baked and no war-time stuff in 'em.' Several tried to express themselves when they received their gift, so please accept their appreciation. "We are only a mile and a-half from Great Ayton, the bi'rthplace of the great explorer, Captain Cook, who discovered your part of the world. All our people come from the surrounding district, and it is a lovely part of the country. "Thank the residents of Levin and district from our old people here," concludes the letter.
