NEW ZEALAND MAY BE FILM STUDIO
^ - ■ AUCKLAND, Oet. 1. There was a possibility that British film companies would come to New Zealand to produce full length filnis as was being done in Australia, said Mr. S. Y. Gresharn, Australian -'and New Zealand representative-.for Ealing Studios (London) when he arrived in Auckland by air from Sydney. The iirst film made in Australia by a British company, ' ' The Overlanders ' wliich received lta. premiere on Friday, had been sueh a success that it was likely more films would be produced in this part of the world. The production of "The Overlanders" 'Iiad proved it was possible to inake a picture without the use of a studio, Mr. •Gresharn continued. Any country that had slcy and landscape was a natural studio. British and ■ American film producers were liampered by laek of studio space and it was possible tliey, would be driven more and more to using natural surroundings. The advantages that would result from the production of films in Australia and New Zealand were many. It meant that operating costs would be cut. There was a reservoir of talent whieh, if used, would be cheaper than Hollywood or British film stars.
