REFUND OF MONEYS SPENT

CLAIM BY EX-PRISONERS LONDON, Sept. 29. Between 3000 and 4000 airmen ofiicera who were prisoners of war in Germany, are claiming from the British and Dominion Governments the return of £105,000 spent during imprisonment to aid the Allies, says the Daily Telegraph. The sum is made up of the following payments: — Escape intelligence, £45,000. Administration, £40,000. Extfa food, £5000. Entertainments and education, £15,000. Prisoners from United Kingdom claim ahout £66,000 and Dominions officers subscrihed the halance. The scheme originated at Stalagluft 1 when it was realised spashiodic escapes were not aiding the Allies. Economic warfare was carried on hy buying and hurning German food and money sent hy relatives of Allied officers in the occupied zones for piwchasing food and goods whieh the Germans wanted. Guards were hrihed to aid escapes. American officers who contributed have already been paid in fnll by the United States Government.
