WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. Fatlier Alfred J. Cullen, S.M., B.S.C., former reelor of St. Patriek's College, Wellington, ;liel in Gladstone, Queensland, today, aged 56, after an illness. Born in Christchurch in 1890, a son of the laie Sergeant. F. Cullen and Mrs. Cullen, Father Cullen was a brother of Monsignor F. Cullen, of Hawera, and Father .1. J. Cullen, of St. Patriek's College, Wellington. Deceased was edueated at St. Patriek's College, Wellington, from 1906, to 1908, and while a pnpil he won the Kennedy seholarship. He had'an outstanding athletie. record. A member of the first fifteen, he was also athletie ehampion and held the 100 yards sprint reeord of 10. 2-5 seconds for over 20 vears. He was ordained a priest in 1915 at Greenmeadows, Hawkes Bav. In 1916 he was appointed to the staff of St. Patriek's College, Wellington, where he remained until 1919. In 1920 Father Cullen beeame toundation member of the staff of St. Bede's College, Christchurch. In 1931 ! he was appointed reetor of St. Patriek's College, Wellington, where he remained ! until lie retired in 1935. He was later 1 engaged in paroehial work both in Ausi tralia and New Zealand.
