MANAKAU'S BIRTHDAY PARTY The Manakau Women 's Institute celebrated its fifteenth ° birthday with a delightful afternoon party in the Town Hall. Miss Cotter, president, welcomed visitors from. Levin, Otaki and Te Horo, and also members of the Manakau W.D.F-F. Representatives from ' these institutes conveyed their good , wishes to the president, together , with beautiful bouquets of fiowcrs. During the afternoon Miss , Holmes, of Otaki, who was the ■ guest speaker for the afternoon, , gave a most interesting talk on life in war-time England. She was , accorded a hearty vote of thanks ■ and presented with a sheaf of , flowers. Mrs. Greenwood and Miss M. , Black contributed vocal solos, these , items being much enjoyed by all , present. A highlight of the - afternoon was the cutting of the beautiful birthday cake, made by

Mrs. Reid and iced by Mrs. Bennett. Mrs. Powell (Levin) cut the cake and the candles were lit and blown out by Mesdames Taylor (Levin) and Synnott (Otaki) . Afternoon tea was then serve'd and the function was brought to a , close by the singing of the National Anthem. ' -
