He is confident there will be a greater quantitv of the better quality nieat in the near t'uture. While the nieat famine affects the wliole nation, it effects New York niost severely. It is reported that onlv five car loads of lamb and mutton and three car loads of veal reached the city on Wednesday night. for legitimale deslinations. The niajority of butehers are closed. The Dejiartnient of Alarkets reports that for the lirst timo in its history poultry receipts exceed nieat. Poultry, whieh is not under price eontrol, ranges from a dollar to 125 cents a pound.
