WELLINGTON^ Sept, By the uarrow margin of two vates the Wellington Hospital Board last , night deelined support for a propasal that nurses should be given a 40-hour week and overtime for excess hours, on the gmund that the shorter week is at present impracticable because of shortage of sta(f and of residential diflicnlties, but the board will seek penmssion to inc.rease nurses' salaries by not less tliaq £30 a year in c.ompensation t'o.r the longer hours worked. The board is pro posing, also, that the " annual leave should be increased to two periods of a fovtnight in each year.
