TTow Ribbontrop tried to persuade •Tapan to mako a sneak attaek on Siugaporo in tlie spring of 1941, helieving tliis would resuit in the defeat of England before \meriea entered the war, was revealel i-n a secret document submitted to the War t'rinies trial. Ribbentrop, in Felnuarv, 1941, told the Japanese Ambassaffor, Oshima. who is among the aceused, tliat a lightning oceupution of Singapore would eompel England to sue for peace. Oshima assured Ribbentrop that preparations for the seizure of Singapore would" be completed by the end of May wlien .lapan would also be ready for possible war with tlie Fnited States which might resuit from the assault on Singapore. Oshima also stated that plans wero readv for the occupation of Hong Kong and the Philippines but Ribbentrop urged tliat tliey be set aside in fuvonr of the Singapore atack. Ribbentrop was of opiniou that the Enited States would be unv.illing to risk its fleet west of Hawaii
