NATIONAL PARTY BALL
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT MANAKAU The Manakau Hall was the scene 3f a most enjoyable evening last 3aturday when an outstandingly : successful .ball, was spqnsored by . the Manakau branch of the National Party. The. guests of the evening were Mr. J. J. Maher, National candidate for the Otaki electorate, who was accompanied by Mrs. Maher and their two daughters, and Mr. M. H. Oram, the member for Manawatu, who was accompanied by Mrs. Oram and their daughter. Upon their arrival the guests received a rousing ovation. Shortly before the supper. adjournment both Mr. Maher and Mr. Oram spoke briefly, thanking those present for. the welcome accorded them and the opportunity mch a function afforded of meeting the people of the district. The applause which greeted Mr. Maher, who was making his first appearance in the Manakau district, augurs well for his future campaign. Visitors were present from both Palmerston North and Wellington, with the National Party represented by Mr. and Mrs. Theo Hills, Mr. R. Wall, Mr. D. P. Todd (electorate chairman) , Mr. R. G. Romans (electorate secretary) and Mrs. Romans, and Mr. W. Day (organiser) . The hall was decorated with blue and white streamers and these were matched with blue and white draping curtains. Much greenery was in evidence including artistically-arranged ferns. The manner in which the decorating and catering was carried out .-.eflects much credit on the energetic committee responsible. The women's committee had spared 110 affort to provide an excellent supper, and it was the subject of many favourable comments. On the departure of the guests ihe crowded hall sang "For They are Jolly Good Fellows" to a full orchestral accompaniment. Dancing was continued until a late hour when the happy function was brought to a close.
