MORE CITIZENS LEAVING

FAREWELL TO BE ARRANGED Once again Shannon is in the unfortunate position of losing more of her respected citizens. This time it is Mr. and Mrs. F. Thurston, who have been residents of Shannon for over twenty years, during which time Mr. Thurston has been employed at the Bank of New Zealand. Owing to health reasons, Mr. Thurston has found it necessary to ieave Shannon. During their years in Shannon both Mr. and Mrs. Thurston have made many friends, who wili be very sorry to see them leave this cown. Mr. Thurston has been connected on the social side of many organisations. He has been a willing worker for a number of sports clubs and has always offered his services as a doorkeeper for almost every function held in the town. He is a keen member of the local tennis club, holafng the office of president over many years. Frank is also a valued member of the local branch of the R.S.A., and it is through the after effects of a serious injury received in World War I that his health is not 100 per cent. at the moment. In his business capacity, Mr. Thurston has earned the respect of everyone having dealings with him. Mrs. Thurston, too, has done much in the interests of the town. She is one of the key members of fche Plunket Society, having done great work in holding the organisation together over lean times. It is fitting, therefore, that a public reception should be extended to these two popular citizens prior to their departure. The Mayor (Mr.R. E. Downes) is calling a public meeting of all citizens and organisations in the Council Chambers at 8 p.m. on Monday evening, September 30, when arrangements will be made for the farewell function. .
