— -v AUCKLAND, Sept. 23. Two scliool Ixoys suffered burns when a small tin of methvlated spirits ex- : ploded in tlie metal workshops at tne j Avondale Intermedihte High Sehool i this afternoon. They wero: — * | Frank Robert Edgar T.angstone, aged J 12. son of Mr. B. Langstone, of Mount I Albert, and grandson of Mr. F. Lang- j stone M.P. Leslie Kenneth Wilson, aged 13, son I of Alr. D. Martin. about 1.45 p.m. It is presuined the flamc t'rom a bJow lamp J standing on the bench set fire to the small tin of methvlated spirits used to light the lamp, causing the tin to explode and the burning fluid to spun over the two boys. Most of it went over Langstone wlio suffered severe burns to the head, t'ace and arnis but the tium.es were soon extinguished by the prornpt action.of A[r. Mart'rn iji taking oft' his laboratory coat and wrapping it tiglit.lv round the boy. Pending the arrival of the ambulance, Langstone was taken.in a.car to the local doetor. Wilson, who suffered burns to the hands and iieck, was attended by some of the ' other boys. On being removed to Auckland ITospital Langstone was admitted but Wilson was scnt home after having his burns dressed. Langstone's conditioa is not- serious.
