nicholson cup final , R. A. FREDERIKSON WINS The fourth and final round of the Nicholson Cup series was played by members of the Levin Golf Club-on Saturday afternoon, when R. A. Frederikson, by consistently playing just below his handicap in the final. best three of four rounds for the season's play, managed to gain a narrow but meritorious win by recording a round of 81 — 12 — 69. His three nett recorded rounds were 67, .68 and 69, giving him a gross aggregate of 204, this score being one ahead of B. J. Eagar, whose score of 205 was an excellent effort for a newcomer to the game. The winner proved to be W. S. Ogier with a record breaking score of 83 — 18 — 65. Following on the winner in close attendance were C. D. Melville and A. E. Hastedt who both recorded nett 66's, while three other players in J. N. Sams, S. C. Franklin and R. A. Frederikson all succeeded' in playing below their handicaps toscore a nett 69. Sams (4) 1 by a margin of four and three. Being in receipt of eight strokes over the final round of 18 holes, Melville had a decided advantage over his lower handicapped opponent, and at the. end of the outward journey of nine holes he had a lead of two up. Sams found that he was unable to bridge the gap effectiyely, and Melville, with the winning of an additional two holes, clinched the game on the Lakeside green. The match now completes all the major club fixtures in the men's section for tlie present season. Next Saturday's Match A popular match with all club members, in the form of a Stapleford, will be played on Saturday afternoon next, the draw for same being at 1.5 p.m. sharp from the clubhouse. Inter-club Match The fourth and final game in the inter-club series between members of the Levin and Otaki Clubs will take place .011 Sunday next, September 29, when the Levin team will. visit Otaki. The Otaki Club to date have a two to one margin in win's for the present season's. play, but the local side are confident that they can square the account and an interesting match is assured irrespective of the ultimate result. The team to represent Levin will be advised during the coming week together with transport arrangements. . . Club Doings All club members extend their congratulations to R. A. Frederikson upon his success last Saturday in annexing the Nicholson Cup. Golf, regarded in its f ull sensc as one.'of the major winter sporting; activities, is, or can be, aptly described as a survival of the fittest.- Throughout its lengthy .career, the local club has been indeed fortunate with the loyal club spirit with which its members have been imbued, and this season in particular, in its first year of post-war golf, the same spirit has been passed on to newcomers with happy results.
