Transfer Without Force some try to SWfM ashore

Received Tuesday, 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 23. The transfer of illegal immigrants from the Palmach to the steamer Ocean Vigour was ccmpleted this afternoon "without force being used," says Reuter's Haifa correspondent. The colonel commanding the 250 British troops engaged in transfer said the immigranrs "came very Willingly." Five women were among the immigrants who jumped into the water in the morning and tried to swim ashore. The Ocean Vigour is due to sail for Cyprus this afternoon. It is beheved that the body of the Jew killed in the clash yesterday was taken ashore secretly and buried. It is officially stated that terrorists ambushed a miiitary lorry on the Haifa-Athlit road. One British officer was taken to hospital. Reuter's Tel Aviv correspondent reports that 400 vehicles were stopped and thousands of persons questioned when British troops held a sudden road check. A number of Jews were detained for further questioning. The Irgun Zvai Leumi has brought into action a secret radio in addition to the Haganah's "Voice of Israel," says the Jerusalem correspondent of the Associated Press. The new radio, "Fighting Zion," declared that the Haifa railway station was attacked' on September 20 because it was a link in the important British com'munications between Palestine and Egypt." ___
