"The appointriient of Mr.' Raiigi Royal, Chief Welfare Officer of the Native Department, as Controller under the Maori Social and Ecoriomic Advancement Act passed last year, was announced yesterday by the Public .Service Commissioner, who also announced _ the appointment of Mr. J. P. Ferris as Assistant Controller. Mr. Robert Butler, of St. Paul, Minnesota, first united _ States Ambassador to Australia arrived in Auckland 011 a special American Skymaster yesterday afternoon, on his way to take up his new post in Canberra. Accompanied by his wife, son and daughter, Mr. Butler will leave Whenuapai this morning on the last stage of his flight to Sydney. A well known American shipbuilder and banker, the new Ambassador received his appointment in July soon after it was announced that the American Legation in Australia had been raised to Embassy status.
