EARLY SETTLER PASSES
THE LATE MR. WILL RICHARDS One of Shannon's early settlers in the person of Mr. Will Richards passed away in the Greenlane Hospital, Auckland, last week/a few days prior to his :78th ' birthday. Although he had been in indifferent health for the past two years, the duration of his .last illness couid be counted in hours. On coming to Shannon, the late gentleman felled the bush on ••"Round Hill," and worked it as a sheep farm until he sailed with the 7t,h ■ Contingent for the South African War. On his return to New Zealand he purchased a farm on Buckley Road and about 1907 sold thls to acquire a property at Waitoa, retiring in 1917 to live at Mangere, Auckland, and more recently at Papatoetoe. He is -survived by his widow, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Richards, of Shannon. There was no family.
