NOMINATIONS FOR OTAKI Nominations for the 9taki Maori Racmg CiuD s spring meeting close on Monday nignt with the secrecary, Mr. nepia Winiata. The caretaker, Mr. Aioert Mita, reports that uie course has never been better, it iiaving oeen given special attenuon. An up-to-date mower as used on aerodromes has been secured and is aoing iine work. Ilacehorses at Otaki The Otaki Maori Racing Club's course presents a very busy appearance each morning and gallops 1 are proving very interesting, es- : peciaily in view of the coming meeting. In all there are nearly eighty racehorses in Otaki, and more are expected if training ; quarters can be procured. Welling ton Races The first dav of the Wellington i races, to be held at Awapuni, willj be October 26. The stakes offered I are as follows: Hurdles £350, Guineas £1250, Wainu Handicap £700, : Rimutaka Handicap £300, Welling- 1 ton Handicap £1250, Wellesley , Stakes £1250, Shorts Handicap £700, and October Handicap £350. On the
second day the Harcourt Stakes will be worth £1000, and the Pearce Handicap a similar amount.
