M.G.M. ANNUAL PRIZE NOVEL CONTEST
The third award in the M.-G.-M. annual prize novel contest of 200,000 dollars has just been announced. This contest, fh'st launched in 1944, calls for the award of a minimum of 125,000 dollars to the author of the best hook of the year, with the possibility of a further 50,000 dollars contingent on saies, and an award of 25,000 dollars to the publisher. This year's winner is "Return To-night," a story of contemporary England by Mary Renault. The .author is a trained nurse and graduate of Oxford, who has published three previous novels, "Promise of Love," "Kind are her Answers" and "The Middle Mist." The winning novels in 1944 and 1945 were "Green Dolphin Street," by Elizabeth Goudge, and "Before the Sun Goes Dowii," by Elizabeth Metzger Howard. All are to be filmed by M.-G.-M.
