Ellen Drew's first role under her recently signed term contract at Columbia will be the feminine lead in "Sing While You Dance," a musical comedy. The largest staff of music arrangers in Hollywood history has been assembled for the scoring of "The Jolson Story." Ann Marlowe has an important supporting role in "Gallant Journey." Tnis 10-year-old actress gave an outstanding performance as Joan Crawford's younger daughter in "Mildred Pierce." Ronald Reagan and wife Jane Wyman have left Hollywood to enjoy their long-delayed honeymoon. Reagan was recently discharged from the Army. Rumour is current in Hollywood that Norma Shearer will follow Joan Crawford by making another picture. It is several years since Miss Shearer made a picture. Films which Warner Bros.' Studios have just completed are "Humoresque," "The Sentence" and "A Very Rich Man." Recordings of Dixieland Band numbers were made by Columbia Pictures for "The Jolson Story," the Larry Parks-Evelyn Keyes technicolour film based on A1 Jolson's life. Louis Hayward, who starred m "The Son of Monte Cristo" three years ago, will bring that classic Alexandre Dumas character back to the screen in "The Return of Monte Cristo." The feminine star to appear opposite Hayward has not yet been announced. Ann Miller originates a new dance number — a . tap samba — for her stellar role in "Thrill of Brazil," a Latin America musical. In addition to the samba, Ann will be seen with a large ensemble in three other novel routines. Plans have been announced for the immediate production of "Our Last Chance," a documentary short subject dealing with the problems of the atomic bomb. It will follow along the theme of the Academy Award winning "Hitler Lives?" It is scheduled to go before the cameras this week at Warner Bros. Studios. „ .... Hurtling through the night two trains — locomotive and six cars each— collide head on in a spectacular sequence for Warner Bros' film version of the great Edna Ferber classic, "Saratoga Trunk" which will be released in Wellington next month. Edward Everett Horton has the comedian role in "Down to Earth. Columbia will choose five other "out of this world" beauties for the remainder of the goddess sisters. It was reported earlier that Mai-o-uerite Chapman and Lieut.-Com-mander Randolph Rosse were a blazing twosome, but this weeks news from Hollywood says that Marguerite, back in Filmland after a holiday, is now betrothed to a Standard Oil executive and plans to wed next month. lQffov The most intngumg fan lettei from the bobby-sox crowd was received by Glenn Ford the othei day.
