BASKETBALL
OTAKI TEXTILES, LTD. Otaki Textiles A and B basketbal teailis recently visited Wellingtoi by bus to compete in the yearh . basketball ,s games against Amos Soft-goods 'two " teams, Soma anc Da.phne. In the morning the tean /isited Mr. Amos' home at Karori mere prior to the games they wen reated to morning tea. After the irive, this was especialiy welcome nd appreciated. The two games in the morning ilayed on ihe tennis couro, wei\ .etween the men employed bj unos' Soft-goods, and against joma and Daphne. These games rere won by the men in botli nstances. Lunch was partaken of at thactory, where a very pleasant time ras spcnt, and then a trip was nade to Mt. Cook courts, where jolh cup games were played. Otaki rexuiles B team and Daphne were .he first to play and a splendid game resulted, the former winning iy seven goals to four. Sparkling play was witnessed, and the handling of the ball did all credit. The game was fast and open and aroused the enthusiasm of those looking on. The second game, Soma v. Otaki Textiles A, was a hardi'ought contest, Soma eventually vVinning by nineteen goals to ten. Again some good hard play was witnessed. and the neat and quick handling of the ball was frequently applauded. It was a game well won, while the defeated team was by no means disgraced. Later over sixty persons partook of dinner, which was followed by speeches. The players were warmly complimcnted on their play, and thanks were extended to those who had helped make the outing so enjoyable. Amidst applause the jcups were presented to Miss Margaret Guthrie, captain of the • Otaki Textile B team, and Miss |Joyce Campbell, the Soma captain. The Otaki teams comprised: — A team: R. Meta (captain), J. Nicholson ( vice-captain ) , N. Cole, S. Fox, N. Murrell, P. Munro, M. Ransfield, S. Hogben, R. Ransfield and the emergency, Miss M. Williams, who is also the club's secretary. B team: V. Williams, M. Harvey, M. Guthrie (captain), P. Cootes, D. Scatchard, J. Snowden, H. Burgess, G. Potete and D. Mortimer. All attended a bright and entertaining picture party at night, and the next day, after lunch at the Brown Owl, a very pleasant outing was brought to a conclusion by a j clrive over the Akatarawas. Much credit is due to the organisers of the trip, who did all possible for the enjoyment of the party, and also to Wellingtonians who did much to make the visit • such an enjoyable one.
