An ofiicial reporl issucd by the Wellington Woolbrokers ' Association in conjunetion with the New Zealaiul Wool Buyers' Association aud Wool DisposaJ Commission, statcs tliat after a iapse of seven years. the opening wool auctioii for the 1946-47 season was held in Wol lington today when 10,026 bales were offered. Tlie six eatalugucs comprised 5,835 bales of new season 's greasy wool of whieli the bullc was crutchings. In addition to 1465 bales of slipe, 1670 bales of scoured wools were offered on aecouut of the New Zealand Wool Disposal Oommissioa and New Zealand 8>heepslon Gontrol. Also submitted were 1116 bales of old stock greasy wools. The crutchings came maiuly from the Witira'i'tipa ' and Manaw'atu distvilTs. There wus a lianited quuntity also from the Blenheim and Nelson dislricts. On tho whole the crutchings were not as attractive as during past seasons due to tlie wet weather cxperiouoed about crutching time. A full bench of buyers was ]iroseiit and liidding opened keenly amongst a limited section for avcrage to good quality crutchings, poorer types not being so keenly sought after. Finer quality crutchings met little competitiou. Towards tho close of the sale u weakening tendencv was uoticeablo for average stylo crutchings. America, Australia, Bradford and local uiills purcliased tho bulk of tho crutchings wliile Franco was iu evidence on fme hogget fleece wools. Following is the ofiicial range of prices: — Crutchings J bred: Good to super, nil; averagc, 9d to lUd ; inl'erior and seody, nil. 2 bred: Good to super, up to I3id. Finc cross bred: Averagc, • llrl io 12Ad; inferior and seedy, 7id to 9id. Gross bred: Extra super, up lo 21 jd; good to super, 16d to 19d; averagc, 12d to 15-id; iuferior and seedy, 8d to Ilijd.
