MEMORIAL HALL PROJECT
FURTHER MEETING HELD Another meeting of reprcsentatives of various sports bodies and other organisations was held at the Council Chambers last night, the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, presidmg. There was a good attendance. Dn account of the unavoidable absence of the acting secretary, Mr. R. Bills, Mr. W. Wilson acted in his ;tead. Mr. Atmore stated that it was considered by the Incorporated Societies that alterations and amendments were necessary to some of the rules, and those drafted and submitted by Mr. Atmore were approved, and will be forwarded for confirmation. It was decided that the registered offi.ee of uhe iocal body be the Borough Ccuncil Chambers. Ai.oer apologies had been submitted on behalf of those unable to be present correspondcnce was dealt with, it being stated by the W.D.F.U. that Mrs. Thorpe had been appointed delegate for that body, while the Federated Farmers had appointed Mr. C. C. Holmes. Mr. Holmes pointed out that he was not in a position to offer to make a contribution from the federation to the memorial. The federation was New Zealand-wide and if a donation was made there would doubtless be similar requests from various other branches tRroughout the Dominion. The matter of a donation would have to come from the provincial executive, and he predicted that there was little hope of any help from that source. Therefore, any donation would be of a personal nature and not from the collective body. The Young Farmers' Club was similarly situated. Mr. Elliott. Junr., stated that his club had de'cidecl to contribute towards a wing at Massey College. Mr. Mortiboy stated " that the remarks were appreciated, but suggested that' the two be asked to remain as committee members. This was agreed to, and Messrs. Holmes and Elliott acquiesced. Mr. Holmes desired to know the object of the proceedings, and it was pointed out by Mr. Atmore that a recommendation had been .nade that a hall be erected on the .omahi, or as near as possiblej to -.hat locality, in memory of the iiien who had sacrificed their lives in the last war. If sufficient funds were not raised for the desired pro-
ject, the dclegates would have the right to revoke the decision in favour of a more suitable. building. It was pointed out tliat Te Horo . was considering the matter of a war memorial and, therefore, donations to any extent could not bc expected -fr'oni' that quarter. . The matter of appointing a secretary was discussed and it was agreed that a sum of £25 should' be given as rcmuneration for the first year. Various suggestions were ,made and it was finally decided that the decision of a Secretary be [ • left in the hands of Messrs. Morti- 1 boy, R. Bilis and F. Edwards, it 1 being hoped that they would larrange for a secretary from the Ithree, but failing this, joint seCretarics. Mention was made of :thc japabilities of each. | The meeting adjourned to allow ffie rules to be amended and 'returned, after which a further meeting will be held.
