BUS AND TAXI COLLIDE
ANOTHER SMASH ON THE OHAU BRIDGE Their brakes useless on the slippery surface, a New Zealand Raildays bus and a taxi met head-on ih the middle of the Ohau bridge yesterday morning. As a result the driver of the taxi, Mr. W. J. Farmer, of Wellington!,, and his only passenger, suffered concussion, but no other injuries. The driver of the bus, Mr. J. E. Chapman, of Wellington, and four passengers escaped uninjured. It was the second accident of this nature on the Ohau bridge in the last six months. Both vehicles came on to the bridge at the same time, the bus going north, and the taxi south. Although both drivers applied their brakes, the surface of the bridge was so slippery after rain had (allen that it was impossible to avoid the collision. The bus was only slightly damaged, but exten•sive damage was done to the front of the taxi. The Ohau bridge is rapidly becoming notorious for its treacherous surface in wet weather, and its replacement by a modern two-way traffic structure is considered by motorists to be overdue.
