FUNCTION AT MANGAORE There was a large gathering of Mangaore residents' and many. visitors present at the Mangaore Hall on Thursday evening, when the unveiling of a 'scroll of honour took place to men of the power station who had served during the 193945 World War. In his remarks prior to the unveiling, Mr. J. D. Campbell, superintendent of the power station, said that he considered it a privilege to represent the people of Mangaore at the gathering. He stated that it was indeed unfortunate that Mr. Blackwood could not be present to perform the unveiling ceremony, as he had been closely associated with all t'he men whose names appeared 011 the scroll. However, a copy of tne scroll was being sent ~to Mr. Blackwood as a gesture of goodwill for the fine work he had dpne in connection with Mangaore's patriotic effort. Mr. Campbell went on to say that Mangaore had been fortunate in that all of her servicemen had returned. Before calling upon Mr.. S.. W. Barber, president of the R.S.A., to unvell the scroll, Mr. Campbell read' a message of apology received from Mr. A.'C. Owen, district engineer, who was unable to attend the function." ■' 0 In his remarks, Mr. Barber paid tribute to the fine record of all those connected with the power station during the' war years and also to the record, of the sons of Mangaore who had ; served in all branches of the' fighting forces overseas. Mr. Barber also made mention of the work done by Mr. Blackwood and expressed regret that he could not be with them for the occasion. The scroll, which bore thirtytwo names, was designed by one of the draftsmen at the Palmerston North office and was framed in English oak, the frame being made from portion of a case which carried some new equipment for the station from England. A most delightful supper was served and an enjoyable evening spent in dancing to the music of the Hot Shots Dance Band. Mr. J. D. Campbell was an efficient M.C.
