SYDNEY, Sept. 11. Tlie drought position in nortli and north-west Xew South Wales is liecoming daily more serious. Wlieat crops have failed over large areas because of the lack of spring rains, and farmers are turning starving sheep on to stunted growtli to keep them alive a little longer. In many areas, spring lambiug 1ms beeu written off as a total loss. Ewes, not baviug niilk for theii lainbs, desert lliem. to go foraging. The drought is considered to bo far worse tlmn that of .1992. -and the authorities sav there is worse to eonie. Motor and rail stransport is in eonstant vise sliifting stock to soulhern pastures, but on detraining up to 12 sheep are found dead in euch truek. In some parts no worthwhile rain has i'allen for eight months.
