WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. Thc income of the national division of tlie New Zealaiid Broadcasting Service for the year endcd Marc-h 31 hmt totalled £130,193, comparcd witn £1(58,859 for the previous year. This wa.s stated in the annual report of the service presented in the House of Kepresentatives yesterdav. The income included £111,371 from radio licence fees. Saies of station timo by the eommercial division of the service established a record of £289,379. Other revenue amounted to £(5 191, making a total income of £295,570, eompared witn £280,141 the previous year. Dealing with the accounts of the national division the report stated that expenditure on programmes absorbeu £110,177, incliuliug £17,511 paid tu niembers of orchestras, £4(3,578 on talent and £0123 spent on the welfare ano entertainiuent of the Fighting Forces stationed in Nbw Zealand and overseas, vvhile copyright, feutures, and miscellaneous programme charges amounted 1 to £15,035. General administrative aua running expenses cust £110,807. Total expenditure (including provision tor depreciation of assets, £19,105) amounted to £270,009, leaving a working surplus on the ycar's operations ot £201,181. The suni of £21)0,000 was invested, making a total oi £1,830,000 set aside to provide for future developmeut and to overtake arrears of construction anil replacement of e([uipment. Jn tlie coniniercial division general administrative aml running expCuses amounted to £158,902, and repreciation to £8107, the expenditure for the year totalling £188,202, leaving a net protit of £107.808. The smti of £82,000 had beeu provided to meet taxation and the appropriatiou accouiit now stood at £109,917. 1 uvcst nieuts of £120,000 have beeu set aside to meet eapital extensions and niujor improveinents m oHice and studio aceommodation. The rejiort stated that reserve funds wero accumulated duririg the war for the jirovision of adequate buildings and other facilities. Many demands were iieing nuule, hovvever, on the buildiue resources of the countrv, and the claims 1 . of Ihe service niust take their place with those of other sections of the eomniunity.
