Railway Electrification
Railway electrification schemes, deferred by the war, were now made urgent by coal shortages, stated the Ministry of Works annual report presented in Hou&e of Representatives yesterday. Rolling stock, station yards, signals and track duplication work were all making urgent claims, while various railway extensions suspended during the war and new railway links for opening up rural and industrial areas, timber resources, and so on were scheduled for early construction. Attention must be given to railway tracks, which had had to carry an enormous volume of traffic due to petrol and rubber shortages.
