PLAY CENTRE OPENS
CHILDREN SPEND A HAPPY AFTERNOON The Levin Childrens' Play Centre, open for the first time on last Tuesday afternoon, had a successful start, according to the supervisor, Miss Hitchcock. Twelve children spent the afternoon playing with the .toys provided, and all seemed quite happy. They did not appear to show any particular regret at the absence of their mothers, although apparently pleased to see them again on their return from shopping expeditions. Miss Hitchock said that she was kept fairly busy, and that there was still a good deal of settling and adjusting to be accomplished. Some of the parents assisted in the work, and all.'were 'pieased with what was being- done, considering the idea a good a'nd helpftii. oiie;._ v , • 1 1 1 Miss Hitchcock said' that she felt the centre had a very successful and useful future ahead of it. The Mayoress, Mrs. H. B. Burdekin, who is chairwoman of the committee which has organised the centre, expresses the committee's thanks to Miss Hitchcock, who is giving her services gratis in supervising the centre in its initial stages, and in instructing the youngest of the town's citizens in the first steps of community life. The centre will be open again on Friday to children under school age. The weekly hours are: Tuesdays, 1.30 to 3.45 p.m. and Fridays, 2 to 4.30 p.m. It is again stressed that the facilities are open. to all mothers, whether from the town or country. The committee also makes an appeal for furniture in which to house the toys and other equipment. ' -
