OAMARU, Sept. 10. Unless the North Otago-Southhmd match scheduled for Septeiuber 2S is reengnised by the New Zealand Rugb\ Union as a Ranfurly Shield lixturt North Otago will not make the trij» t(. Invercargill. This decision was reaehed by the management committee of the North Otago Rugby Union last even ing. The president (-Mr. ,T. MacMillan 1 said the New Zealand Rugby Union should have advised the unions concerned of the rule governing uotilication of shield phallengers, as it was several years kince Ranfurly Shield matches liad l)qem played. The report from WellingtVh had jnenlioued " repercussions, " ajj^l to avoid auy trouble the speaker thgught that North Otago should obtain a delinite ruling from the New Z'aiahd C hion. -Mr. D. S. Loder expressed the view that if North Otago could not play for Ihe Ranfurly Shield it was not worth while puttiag the representative sido into hard training. The comniittee then made the above- decision.
