ERECTION OF SHOP-DWELLING
"OBSERVER."
Sir, — Regarding the Levin Borough Council's refusal to grant a permit to build a shop an{* dwelling at the northern end of Oxford Street, I personally believe the idea to be an excellent and enterprising one, and in no way whatsoever a disfigurement to the landscape. Why, therefore, a mass of opposition against -any enterprising project? It would be exceedingly useful to residents as far as MacArthur Street and elsewhere. I will admit slum areas are not desirable, but on weighing the pros and cons., the refusal is an absurdity. If the council is anxious to:.-disRlayv.;,a .beireficial. hand, let it 'invo^e'a law'tb cbblb§l, t^well-to^ do ownqrs of 'shop V ptoper^ieu. ip Levin to febuila. " "'•* w ::M'« ! If restrictions hold sway,_ pushmg them all into an "industrial"- area, Levin will be passed over. Surely the council realises that the pendulum of the universe does not swing from here. If people wish to start a healthy enterprise, why oppose them? It savours of vested interests and is detrimental for a f.nnntrv town. Yours etc.,
Levin, Sept. 9.
