FINE FLORAL DISPLAY
Otaki Society's Show PAFFODILS OL'TSTANDSNG The annual show in connection vvith the Otaki H. and D. Society was held at the Raiiway Hall on Thursday, when considerable interest was displayed in the many oeautiful exhibits. The attendance during the afternoon was not iarge, but in the evening the display was witnessed by many, mcluding numbers from distant parts. The daflodils were especially ane, many of the biooms eclipsing aiose seen at previous shows, ana uo Mr. E. T. Bartosh much credit must be given. Not only did he nave many exhibits, but he carried oif championship honours, receiving hearty congratulations lrotn jther leading growers. Mr. R. B. Wilson was also a large and successful exhibitor, and his biooms, like those displayed by Mr. Bartosh, were freely admired and most favourably commented on. Mr. Alex. Wilson also had some nice olooms, while it was very gratifying to see that Mr. R. S. Purvis, a comparatively new arrival in the district, was well to the fore with many lovely biooms. His trumpets were particularly fine. It was also pleasing to see such young' exhibicors as Miss Atmore showing in the open class, while Mr. H. Chittick exliibited biooms that did him credit. Both these exiiibitors were successful. Mrs. C. Walker, of Te Horo, was also a successful exhibitor. In the limited price list class Mr. R. B. Wilson was a prominent exhibitor. The cut bloom section was a very pleasing one, and in the open class prizes were well distributed. Many biooms were exceptionally good —
equal to any seen at previous shows. There was keen competition, but Mrs. HaroltT Tayior was well to the fore with nice biooms. In the amateur section choice and various coloured Iceland poppies jmade a nice display. and notTiing . of the sort had been so much rdmired at previous shows. Mr. Chittick was also a successful ex- ■ hibitor in this section, having" some very fine biooms. The decorative section was one of the best yet seen in Otaki, and children, as well as adults, staged :some very pleasing and certainly artistic entries. Prizes were well distributed and the judge had difficulty in making her awards. The baskets, floating bowls, posies, sprays and decorative tables were all freely admired. Miss Swabey was among the largest exhibitors and her noveity decorated table caused much favourable commcnt. Mrs. Pritchard, Mrs. Sutherland, Mrs, Alex. Wilson and Mrs. Holmes were the main prize winners. The children's class was an exceptionally good one, and here again the judge had an unenviable 'ask in placing her awards. The bowls, vases, buttonholes, posies and decorated saucers were splcndidly done, and everv credit must be given to the young folks. In Mr. R. S. Purvis, the newlyelected secretary, the society "is fortunate. as he not only display.s an interest in his secretarial du/ies, but freely" exhibits. Th? societv should have a bright future if Mr. Purvis continues to hold sway. In Miss Purvis he has a verv
cfficmnt assistant. The society i> also fortunate in having a live wire |n Mr. E. T. Bartosh as president. I-Ie is a large exhibitor and givc every encouragement and help to other growers.
