PINE PLANTATION SWEPT BY FIRE

INVERCARGILL, Sept. (5. Fanned by a strong north vvind, a fire swept through a piuus insignis plantation on the western boundary of Seaward Busli scenic reserve this evening. The majoritv of G000 trees in the plantation, many of which were ready for milling, were destroyed. The city brigade and volunteers prevented the spread of the flames to 2S9 acres 01 native bush. The outbreak apparently resulted from the action of a settler in burning off tussock 011 a property neai the reserve. The darnage is estimated at several hundred pounds.
