CONTROL OF BADMINTON

ASSOCIATION FORMED A long-felt want in the field oi badminton was fulfilled on Tuesday evening when a general meeting of the combined Ohau, Manakau, Shannon and Koputaroa Clubs was held in the Ohau Hall to discuss the possibility of forming a Horowhenua sub-association to control and foster the sport in this distriet. Mr. J. Bryant, of Manakau, who was appointed chairman of the meeting, pomted out that the object of forming the association, which would be a branch of the Manawatu sub-association. A motion that the association be formed was carriea unanimously and it was proposed that each of the four clubs have two representatives on the committee. The meeting adjourned to ailow the representatives for each club to be chosen. On resuming the meeting the following names were submitted to represent the respective clubs until their next aimual meetings; — Ohau, Messrs. H. Benning and J. Bowling; Koputaroa, Messrs. E. Baker and R. Pemberton; Manakau, Messrs. B. Mather and J. Bryant; Shannon, Messrs. V. E. Tippler and T. S.-Downes. Following a long discussion on affiliation, it was decided to communicate with the secretary of the Manawatu sub-association and obtain information which would be helpful to the newly-formed Horowhenua branch. Methods of raising funds were also discussed at length. A spggestion that a tournament should be held between the four clubs before the close of the present season was not considered favourably by some clubs, who have vet to play their own championship tournaments. At the conclusioh "Of the meeting those present were the guests of the Ohau Club for the evening, and some interesting games were played. The ladies of the Ohau Club provided- a delightful supper,« which was a fitting conclusion to a most successful evening:
