COUNCIL'S MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. ? Those present wbre. the -Mayor (Mr. R. E. DowneS) ;a'nd Crs. R. R. Lind, W. C. Thorn, M.P., aavisin'g that he would take up the matter of contributions to Municipal Fir'e Brigades immediately 'with the Minister of" Interhal Alfairs. : ' ' Letjters with requests for''metal for footpath / entrances ' ' ivere receivpd from a number. df',r,esidents. Each request was grahted. Metal was also granted for: tho Church of England entrance. . A request from the State house residents for' attention :to. foot-, paths in front of their houses was considered, it being resolved' that the council communicate with the State Housing Department .asking if the department would consider laying down concrete footpaths in front of the existing State house units and those under construction. Cr. Lind reported that the committee appointed had met Mr. B. Dalley with regard to borough sanitary duties, and had discussed the position fully with him. Cr. Lind stated that Mr. Dalley's capabilities were quite satisfactory and he was prepared to start. He would also do grave digging and act as an extra man on borough work when required. When the council's house in Stout Street becomes vacant it would be offered to Mr. Dalley. A letter from Mr. Shaw regarding the council's letter asking for possession of the dwelling was received. It was agreed that the council approve of the committee's action. Cr. Lind also reported that from the advertisement in connection with the purchase of a horse for borough work, severai replies had been received, but Jhe commlttee had not had an opportunity to inspect. However, thc horses offered would be inspected danng the w^ek. Cr. Lind stated that the bridge at the intersection of Thompson and Levin Streets was unsafe for tralfic, and he was given instructions for the bridge to be closed. He considered that the councillors should inspect the bridge, this being agreed to. Accounts amounting to £193 3s 4d were passecl for payment.
