MEMORIAL HALL FOR OTAKI
FURTHER PROGRBSS MADE A meeting of representatives of sports bodies and other organisations of the town was held at the. Council Chambers last night to furiher consider tne memorial hall proposal, the Mayor, Mr C. F. Atmore, presiding. There was a splendid "attendance anc! considerable interest taken in the proceedings. . The Mayor outlined the result oi previous meetings, after which a free and full discussion foilowed Mr. Atmore stated that Mr. Ray Bills had agreed to accept the posh don of secretary ' temporarily. while apologies were tendered front nbscntgcs Mr. Atmore read the objects oi Ihe meeting, which will be published later, and also the proposed constitution and rules, which were adopted. Various suggestions were made relative to starting the movement and it was hoped that all organisations would assist in an inaugural effort. Mr. Atmore was asked, and agreed. to send personal letters to those interested. It was suggested that all organ-. isations raise at least £10, and that donations be invited at tne inaugural gathering, which would take the form of a concert, when iocal and . outsid.e talent would be secured. . • . It was reported that over thirty organisations were interested, and !it was agreed that a committee. i comprising Mrs. Sid Edwards, Miss Hakaraia and Messrs. R. T. Mortiboy, Fred Edwards, H. B. Edhouse. C. Sharp and O. B. Nilsson, with power to add, be appointed to arrange for the inaugural effort. It was hoped to secure the best of talent and various suggestions in this connection were made. Mr. Atmore stated that the question of a secretary would have to have consideration, Mr. Bills being unable to carry on for any length of time, but would offfciate u.porarily. It was expected that it would ■ be necessary to appoint a paid secretary, as there would .be a considerable amount of work to be done ov.er a considerable period. It was deeided that the next . meeting . of • representatives take place on vVednosday, September 18k, at 7.30 p.m. • • ' A vote of appreciation was tendered to Mr. Atmore for the. splendid work he had done. : . •
