Mrs. Claridge presided over a full attendance of members at the August meeting of the Opiki Women's Institute. Three visitors j were welcomed, Mrs. McNab (Masterton), Mrs. Free (Paraparaumu) I and M&s Iarsen. (Palmerston North) . Mrs. Claridge gave an interesting talk on the Dominion conference recently held in Wellington. Mrs. Kriven and Mrs. Aitchison were elected delegates to the halfyearly council meeting, to be held at Kelvin Grove on October 29. A glee club was formed with Mrs. R. Miers as leader. The roll call was "My favourite hobby." A competition was won by Miss Sames. Other competitions resulted: — Iced chocolate cake: Mrs. Wilde. . Cluster: Mrs. Aitchison 1, Mrs. Robinson 2, Mrs. Trwin 3J Bloom: Mrs. Irwin 1, Mrs. Robinson 2, Mrs. Kriven 3. Potatoes: Mrs. Wilde 1, Mrs. Irwin 2, Mrs. Kriven 3. Hostesses were Mesdames Gordon, Smith and Aitchison. Competitions for next month will be a pot of marmalade, best bloom, cluster and lettuce. Hosteses wiH be Mesdames Wilson and Marshall and Miss Wilson. A garden circle | meeting was held , prior to , the institute meeting to make arrangeIments for the daffodil show to be held on September 14.
