The standard of plav, largely because of tlie hard and some-w-hat bumpy ground, inclined to be ragged.. Both" sides experienced dlfiiculty in/ settlihg. down to tlie eonditions. South Island were on top throughout the. firat half whieh ended with the score 3 — 0 in their flavour. The uorthern team struck better form from the start of the second half and lield the initiative for long periods, gradually wearing down the defenee. The equalising goals were secured with little mere tlian half the spell gouo. The re^ mainder of the game was fairly even with the uorthern team having n shade • better advantage. F?outh's score opeued with a penaltyj goal after Wilson (Northern left back) ! 'had obstructed while taking a penaltyj
bully. The other two points were scored by Reece (Canterbury) and Wyatt (Otago). North 's points caine from two goatij by Ting (Wellington) und one by Neal (Auckland).
