WELLINGTON, A ugust 31. Police inquiries following ihe report yesterday of a robbery in a city restaurant liave resulted in the arrest of four men. Two were arrested in Wellington tliis morning, one at (5.30 a.m., and the otlier two in Christchurch thi.s morning. Thie.ves who broke into the Embassy Restaurant, Manners Street, removefl Ihe safe bodily, It was reeovered by the police, Avith the side hacked out, late yesterday on South Makara Koad, Karori.. The robbery was discovered vvlien one of the proprietors arrived at yvork. Lights wliich had- been left burning tlie night before were out. The safe had disappeared from behind the counter at the front of thewafe, and the till, whieli had been locked, had been smashed and the monev in it removed. Kntrv was apparently gained tlirough a skylight. in the kitchen. The monev missing amounted to about £1000, and approximately £800 has been reeovered. Deteetive C. Urquhart and G. Hogan were assigned to the inquiries immediately lnformation regarding the robbery was received at the Central Police Station. The initial infonnation was meagre, but their work throughout the day and last night resulted in tlie first arrest in Wellington at 0.30 a.m. today. The second arrest followed soon aftervvards, and, other stations having been advised of the robbery and soine knowledge liaving lieen obtained of tlie movements of the other two suspects, tlie last two arrests followed in Christchurch.
