ROADS REFUCE FOR STOCK

FLOODS CAUSE FOOD PROBLEM At present all roads from the flooded areas serve as a refuge for stock from the inundated farms. Even in the borough of Shannon milking cows and sheep are being herded on many of the streets to get what available feed there is. In the country areas the by-roads are carrying their full capacity of stock, and during the week f odder was being fed out from drays and lorries along their whole length. Motorists need to exercise great care, as many cows are calving and ewes lambing on the road-sides. The picture of desolation on the swamp lands beggars description and at present it is impossible to estimate the ultimate loss, which must be considerable. Farmers not affected by the floods have, whereever possible, taken stock from the farms of their less fortunate brethren, sheds serving in many in~ stances for dual milkings night and morning. "
