NEW SCHEME ANNOUNCED
By Telegraph—
ROTORUA, August 27. Tlio announcement by the Minister in Cliarge of Broadcasting, Ifon., F. .Tones, in Dunedin last niglit, that a Dominion sclieme for the exteusion of the ]>resent broadcasting svstem would inchide a studio for Rotorua iituong other places, through the wording of the report, has been misconstrued by many to mean that these places will eventually possess comjiletely self-contained local stations. From inquiries made here today it would seem that the transmitter will be situated in the Waikato district and will serve, in addition to its own listeners, Bay of Plenty and Rotorua. The present population of Rotorua (7000), said one expert techniciari, does not warrant the erection of "a separate transinitting station. It is obvious that the Minister 's announcement deals only with tlip setting up of a studio in Rotorua wliic.h would be conneeted with tho. transinitting station by landline. The same would apply to other centres in this area and thus a balanced local programme would be maintainerl. , He considcred Matamata would be a suitable localion for a transinitting station.
